The Greatest Love of All

February for me continues with the theme of love. "Learning to love yourself is the greatest love of all...". Of course that is a line from Whitney Houston's remake of one of her most famous songs & it still holds true.

Without self love, you can never expect to fully experience love. Although I was a Whitney fan years ago & I would ask the deejays in clubs to play her music, I was never a fanatic or obsessed with her. I appreciated her talent, her beauty & the light that shone in her spirit!

I am writing this entry because Whitney's passing has really touched me & I am surprised how sad I am as a result of it. I can only imagine what her family & loved ones are going through... & my thoughts are with them.

Of course there were troubled times & problems, but I'd rather focus & remember the Whitney we all loved when she burst out on the scene & we were all like ... whaaaatttt???? OMG, we loved this new talented diva.Who is this girl from Newark?

Celebrity in our world is a weird thing. Barbara Streisand had even said it many years ago, that when you are first starting out, everyone is supporting you & wants you to make it. But after awhile they want you to fail & will tear you apart! It's a very sad commentary on our society.

I only pray that this great talent is finally at peace & that she is once again singing her high rich deep notes in the choir surrounded by love from all the angels... as only she could be doing!

So Whitney... "You Are Every Woman", "You're My Baby Tonight" & "I Will Always Love You.' Thank you for all the happiness!

What's Love Got To Do With It?

It's that time of year again - Valentine's Day. It's my favorite holiday, except for my birthday which is not a "holiday" but I still celebrate it for weeks!

Valentine's Day has always meant a lot to me because it's the one time of year that we all get to acknowledge the people that we love & are important to us. Some people find Valentine's Day sappy or commercial, but I don't. For me, it's a day to celebrate caring, giving & sharing with those that are special to me in my life.

This year, Valentine's Day means even more to me because I am lucky enough to be in the city that I love, talk about, obsess about, pine over, compare to all others & miss - my true home... NYC!

Talking to some friends they suggest that since moving to Suburbia I may have over romanticized my love affair with NYC. I'm not so sure about that, but still it gave me something to think about (like I need MORE to think about)! Anyway, for me it reminds me of when you are dating someone & really look forward to that date. You are so excited about that date & want everything to go right, but there's always a little doubt that maybe it won't be as good as you're anticipating. I sometimes think perhaps my "date" with NYC will not go as well as I remember or plan & maybe our "relationship" may finally be over... but every time I'm here, it only gets better!

And speaking of getting better, this year my husband (that's right our first Valentine's Day being married) & I are renewing our vows in Times Square! Wow, so how's that for a date? What's Love Got To Do With It? Absolutely everything.
